The Chinese character Qing (晴) from Qingguang Market (晴光市場) was taken from “QingYuan”(晴園), a special title for the resident of Huang’s family located at the site where we lived at Zhongshan North Road back in 1930’s And the first character Qing (晴) from “QingYuan”(晴園) was combination of the Chinese character of Great-Grandfather’s first name Huang Chunqing(黃純青)，青, and Great-Grandmother’s name Chou Dan (周旦)，旦。 Back in the 1950’s, a church called “真光堂” next to the market, had a joke about its name in Taiwanese. The foreigners back then would pronounce the Taiwanese pronounciation of “真光堂”, “精光堂”(tsin kong tông ) “真荒唐” in Taiwanese, meaning very ridiculous, so the local people then called the market next to the church “精光市場” in Taiwanese (tsin kong tshī tiûnn) . “精光市場” was then pronounced “真光市場”(Zhenguang Shi Chang) in Mandarin, its first character “真”(Zhen), was later on replaced by the character “晴” (Qing) by the local, borrowed from the first character of our resident “QingYuan”(晴園). So that’s how “晴光市場” Qingguang Market was born.
